Chinese shuttlers qualify to vie in all groups of the Indonesian Open

JAKARTA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttlers qualified to vie in all groups they contended in at the Indonesia Open Badminton Super Series quarterfinals on Friday with two pairings to vie in men's and mixed doubles groups respectively.

The No. 8 men's singles shuttler Chen Long was scheduled to start off the quarterfinals in the afternoon against Indian Prannoy Haseena Sunil.

The non-seeded Indian player surprisingly brushed aside defending champion Lee Chong Wei on Thursday to get a quarterfinal berth, while the Rio Olympics champion Chen Long thrashed Indonesian Jonatan Christie with scores of 21-9 and 21-7 later in the day.

Two Chinese men's doubles shuttlers, Liu Chen/Zhang Nan and the No. 3 Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen, will vie in the quarterfinals against Japanese and Chinese Taipei contenders, respectively.

In the women's singles group, No. 6 shuttler Sun Yu will vie against the United States' Zhang Beiwen. Another Chinese non-seeded shuttler Chen Xiaoxin will meet South Korean No. 5 Sung Ji hyun in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile in women's doubles, the No. 5 shuttlers Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan will likely face an uphill battle to secure a semifinal berth as they had to thrash the No. 2 Danish players Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christina Pedersen.

The No. 1 mixed doubles shuttlers Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen are scheduled to vie against their Danish contenders Mathias Christiansen/Sara Thygesen, while Liu Yuchen/Tang Jinhua will vie against the No. 5 pairing Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock from the UK.

Should all of these players prevail in their quarterfinal matches, they will meet in the semifinals scheduled for Saturday.
