BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The 5th Forum on Tourism Integration and Innovation was held from September 17-18 in Lingshui Li Autonomous County, south China's Hainan Province.

The event, organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), is the first-of-its-kind since the launch of the World Tourism Alliance in this month.

Given Hainan’s role as China’s "all-for-one" tourism demonstration province, and the practical paradigm of its Lingshui International Tourism Island Pilot zone, this county served as a platform for discussion on the tourism integration, and its potential to catalyze the sector’s transition and development.

Just a few years ago, Lingshui Li Autonomous County was on the country's list of impoverished counties.

With the alignment of tourism development and poverty reduction, Lingshui transformed itself into a hot destination for rural tourism.

Lingshui boasts premium tourism resources. Featuring idyllic serenity, with authentic ethnic style, it is a place where natural scenery is in perfect harmony with cultural landscapes.

Tropic forests, hills and lakes, together with traditional folklore, contribute to its popularity among tourists, who desire to have a real experience of the nature and ethnic culture.

In addition, scenic bays and islands are studded like pearls along Lingshui’s 109.6-kilometer coastlines, which further enhance its attractiveness.

With the inflow of capital, enterprises, technology and labors, Lingshui was injected a dose of fresh blood, and embarked on a new phase of development.

It combined its advantaged tourism resources with cultural heritage, ethnic folklore, sports and technology, catering to tourists’ growing demand for diverse tourism products, thus realizing industrial transition.

As of August this year, Lingshui saw nearly 2.5 million tourists, up 19.6 percent year-on-year. The tourism revenue totaled 1.598 billion RMB, up 37.8 percent.

The successful practice of Lingshui’s tourism integration and innovation offered a paradigm for other places. It also bore out the potential of rural tourism, which is expected to have the biggest presence in the future tourism market, according to experts.

Experts suggested to innovate more customized tourism products, and ensure tourism keep pace with modern lifestyles, so as to push ahead with the sector’s transformation, maintaining it on a healthy and sustainable track.
