Yueyang Dongting Lake Tourist Resort is located in the south of Yueyang City proper, with the vast Dongting Lake in the west, the Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway in the east, the central urban area in the north, and green mountains in the south. Relying on the Nanhu Lake, the resort plans to set up a tourism corridor around the Nanhu Lake. It focuses on the development of eco-tourism and leisure and entertainment industries. With the Hubin Garden in south of the Nanhu Lake as the carrier, it is planned to establish the Hubin Green Sci-tech Industrial Park, which will mainly develop high-tech industries and pollution-free, low-energy environmentally-friendly industries.

Yueyang Dongting Lake Tourist Resort inherits the traditional folk culture of dragon boat racing. It has successfully held the first World Dragon Boat Racing Championship, the first National Water Sports Competition and other major activities, and created a well-known brand—Yueyang International Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon Boat Museum; Taibai poetry, wine, and tea; cruise ships and other projects are very popular among tourists. Nanhu Square and the Nanhu Lake Tourist Corridor have become central leisure areas for residents to spend holidays. The tourist corridor is among the top 20 leisure attractions in Hunan.
